Workshop RAS - heath and welfare Feb 3-4 2015 Helsinki (short deadline!)
Workshop on Fish health management and welfare in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS)
Helsinki/Vantaa, Finland, February 3-4 2015
The use of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) is developing rapidly in food fish production and is considered an important future technique in aquaculture. Recirculation aquaculture is environmentally friendly as it is a closed farming system, and the possibility of controlling water parameters is larger than in conventional flow through systems. However, RAS poses different challenges on fish health and welfare than traditional systems due to several reasons.
This workshop will cover these problems by the presentations given by fish health professionals, representatives from the fish farming industry and researchers, hopefully leading to vivid discussion of all participants of the workshop. See provisional program here. The organizers have received monetary support from the Nordic Council of Ministers and have the intention of covering the workshop package and accommodation with this. All participants must, however, bear their own travel costs. Please note that there is no fee for registration. The possibility of supporting participants’ accommodation will be clear before the second announcement. It will be sent to those, who have communicated their interest to get more information of the workshop.
